Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines Formalise a Strategic Joint-Business Partnership
Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have confirmed the formalisation of their strategic joint-business partnership, following approval granted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) in January 2026, as well as by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore in July 2025.
This enables MAB and SIA to progressively embark on a new phase of commercial cooperation aimed at improving connectivity and offering greater flexibility to customers travelling between Malaysia and Singapore. Initiatives under consideration include revenue sharing on selected routes between the two countries, the launch of joint fare products, coordination of flight schedules, and the implementation of joint corporate travel agreements across both markets. The airlines will provide further details on these initiatives as they are rolled out.
Datuk Captain Izham bin Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, said that the formalisation of this strategic joint-business partnership with Singapore Airlines represents a key milestone in the advancement of the Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 and in positioning Malaysia Airlines for its next phase of growth. “This collaboration is built on complementary frequencies and aligned schedules, enabling enhanced connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore. Over time, it strengthens Malaysia Airlines’ competitive position by improving the scale, relevance and resilience of its network in key markets.”
Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Airlines, added: “I would like to thank the authorities in Singapore and Malaysia, whose approvals pave the way for this strengthened strategic partnership between Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. This win-win collaboration enhances the operations of both airlines while delivering benefits to our customers through our combined networks. It also highlights the deep and longstanding people-to-people and commercial ties between Singapore and Malaysia, supporting economic growth and sustainable connectivity for the benefit of both countries.”
Since the signing of their agreement in October 2019, MAB and SIA have progressively expanded their codeshare arrangements. Today, Singapore Airlines offers codeshare flights on Malaysia Airlines’ services between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, London Heathrow, as well as to 15 domestic destinations in Malaysia. In turn, MAB codeshares on SIA flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and Penang, as well as between Singapore and Barcelona, Brussels, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Johannesburg, London Heathrow, Rome and Zurich.
In February 2024, both airlines also launched a reciprocal cross-participation of their frequent flyer programmes, enabling members to earn Enrich points and KrisFlyer miles on a selected range of flights operated by both airlines. Further details are provided in Annex A below.
