Honda Injects Additional Investment Into Helmets To Develop ADAS And AD Technology
JAKARTA – The more technology develops, automakers continue to compete to create new things that make users feel safer and more comfortable while driving, including the development of advanced assistance systems.
Honda is one of those who wish to present this, by announcing that he will make additional investments in Helm.ai, a start-up company from California, United States, which has an advantage in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on unsupervised learning.
Through this investment, Honda will strengthen cooperation in developing autonomous driving system (AD) technology and the next generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with an end-to-end (E2E) approach.
Mahito Shikama, Operating Executive Honda Motor Co., Ltd. as well as Head of the SDV Business Development Unit (Software-Defined Vehicle) said that this additional investment is an important step for Honda to lead to the next generation of AD/ADAS systems that are safe, reliable, and original more quickly and efficiently.
“Through collaboration with Helm.ai, we will accelerate the development of AI technology that improves the practicality of our autonomous driving system, as well as provide a surprising and inspiring mobility experience for Honda customers around the world,” he said, in an official statement received, Friday, October 17.
On the same occasion, CEO Helm.ai Vladislav Voroninski, said he was delighted to deepen cooperation with Honda.
By combining Honda’s engineering expertise with end-to-end modular AI software as well as Helm.ai’s Deep TeachingTM technology, we accelerate the development of new generation AD/ADAS software. Together, we aim to present reliable solutions that are ready for mass production, which will accelerate the implementation of Honda’s new generation AD/ADAS systems around the world,” he said.
Helm.ai is an AI software development company founded in November 2016. Honda and Helm.ai have been working together since 2019 through Honda Xcelerator, Honda’s global open innovation program. Through the initial investment made by Honda in 2022, the two companies managed to strengthen collaboration and accelerate research and development of innovative solutions that combine Helm.ai’s advanced AI technology with Honda technology.
In July 2025, Honda and Helm.ai also signed a long-term development cooperation agreement to strengthen the development of AD/ADAS technology based on E2E AI architecture, namely a system that integrates the entire process starting from environmental perceptions, decision making, to vehicle control.
This additional investment further strengthens the relationship between the two companies in the development of the next generation of AD/ADAS. By utilizing Deep TeachingTM original technology and Helm.ai’s generating AI capabilities, Honda will accelerate the development of the AAS system capable of providing high driving assistance, including control of acceleration and steering, on various road conditions, both on toll roads and urban roads.
The technology is targeted to be widely implemented on Honda’s main electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid models in the North American and Japanese markets around 2027.
Furthermore, Honda will continue to accelerate the development of new generation of original AD/ADAS technology based on cutting-edge AI such as E2E AI, and is committed to providing safe and reliable autonomous driving technology for consumers around the world.
This effort is also part of Honda’s long-term vision to realize zero casualties due to traffic accidents involving motorcycles and Honda cars globally by 2050.
