Sydney Thunder appoint MetaWeb as official digital marketing partner

Sydney Thunder, the Sydney-based franchise competing in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), have appointed MetaWeb as their official digital marketing partner as the club looks to sharpen its performance-led digital strategy and deepen fan engagement across platforms.

Under the agreement, MetaWeb, the digital marketing and performance solutions company, will work across both the Thunder’s men’s and women’s programs throughout the season. The partnership is designed to strengthen fan acquisition, optimise digital assets, and deliver targeted, data-driven marketing campaigns aligned to commercial and engagement objectives.

MetaWeb’s scope will cover website optimisation, performance marketing, audience analytics, and campaign delivery across owned, earned, and paid digital channels. The collaboration will also support ticketing and membership drives, matchday promotions, and sponsor-led digital activations, with a clear focus on measurable outcomes and return on investment.

Hiral Shah, CEO of MetaWeb, said, “This partnership is about shared ambition. By combining Sydney Thunder’s incredible community reach with MetaWeb’s digital expertise, we’ll create campaigns that excite fans, strengthen local connections, and demonstrate how thoughtful digital strategy drives measurable growth. We’re proud to back a club that gives so much back to its communities.”

Jack Shah, Director at MetaWeb, added, “We see huge potential in this partnership. This collaboration will accelerate growth for both organisations. Our team is excited to deliver innovative digital experiences that amplify Thunder’s purpose while showing prospective clients exactly how MetaWeb helps brands stand out.”

The partnership reflects Sydney Thunder’s continued evolution of its commercial and fan engagement strategy in an increasingly competitive sports and entertainment landscape. With the Big Bash League competing for audience attention alongside a crowded calendar of live sport and entertainment, data-driven marketing and digital efficiency have become critical levers for driving attendance, memberships, merchandise sales, and sponsor value.

For MetaWeb, the agreement provides a high-profile platform to demonstrate its capabilities within a professional sports environment, leveraging the scale and visibility of one of Australia’s most recognisable T20 franchises.

On the field, Sydney Thunder’s WBBL campaign concluded with a sixth-place finish, recording four wins from ten matches. Attention now turns to the men’s team, who begin their BBL season against Hobart Hurricanes on December 16.

As the season unfolds, Sydney Thunder will look to translate enhanced digital engagement into sustained commercial growth and on-field momentum at Sydney Showground Stadium.
