PURCHASE, N.Y.–Cloudflare and Mastercard announced a strategic partnership aimed at developing cybersecurity tools intended to help small businesses, governments and critical infrastructure organizations better identify and address cyber threats as digital environments grow increasingly complex.
The companies said they plan to combine Mastercard’s cyber intelligence and risk monitoring capabilities — including technologies from its Recorded Future and RiskRecon units — with Cloudflare’s application security offerings. The goal is to create a unified platform designed to help organizations identify internet-facing assets, assess risk exposure and deploy protections more quickly across their digital environments, Mastercard said.
The initiative comes as organizations face expanding attack surfaces driven by rapid technology adoption, outsourced services and legacy systems that can create visibility gaps for security teams. Under the partnership, users would be able to discover previously unknown or unprotected digital assets, monitor cybersecurity posture through continuously updated risk ratings, and apply security controls such as web application firewalls, encryption and automated defenses through a single interface.
Government officials and industry leaders increasingly have emphasized the need for collaboration between public and private sectors to strengthen cybersecurity protections.
“Improving critical infrastructure cybersecurity and reducing cyber risk is an ongoing, challenging mission,” said Dan Cimpean, director of the Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate. He added that growing reliance on digital networks requires countries and organizations to work together to build resilience and prevent cyber incidents.
Cloudflare and Mastercard said the effort is focused on organizations often viewed as high-value targets but with fewer cybersecurity resources.
“For small businesses, critical infrastructure, and governments, a cyberattack is more than a technical hurdle. It is an existential threat,” said Stephanie Cohen, chief strategy officer at Cloudflare.
Mastercard’s global head of Security Solutions, Johan Gerber, said the collaboration is intended to strengthen cyber resilience as smaller businesses represent a significant share of global economic activity.
